Senator Negrete McLeod to hold Oversight Hearing on Emergency Preparedness

On July 25th, Senator Negrete McLeod will conduct a hearing of the Select Committee on the Alameda Corridor in the Ontario City Council Chambers.  The Select Committee's emphasis is on transportation and goods movement through Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.  The hearing will focus on emergency management preparedness and safety.

"Often, immediately after a natural disaster or an emergency that disrupts daily life, there are hearings and reports about how we could have done things better," said Senator Negrete McLeod.  "My hope is that this hearing will bring people together to make sure that we are prepared ahead of time."

The hearing will include representatives from the railroad industry, commercial trucking industry, and local and state agencies.  The hearing is open to the public.

San Bernardino Water Reclamation Plant is Beneficiary $1.7 Million Energy Grant

Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Chino) announced that Gas Technology Institute (GTI) received $1,767,185 from the California Energy Commission to demonstrate an innovative fuel-flexible combined heat and power system (CHP) at the San Bernardino Water Reclamation Plant.

Funding for the grant, which the Energy Commission recently approved, comes from the Commission's Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) program.  GTI is providing $870,388 in matching funds for the project.

"This project will help increase energy efficiency and reduce energy costs for the wastewater treatment plant which are both good for rate payers." McLeod said.

The company will design and demonstrate a CHP system at the San Bernardino Water Reclamation Plant.  The CHP system will provide operational and fuel flexibility capabilities in order to use a wide range of fuels as potential energy sources. These potential fuels include natural gas, renewable resources, waste and flare gases.

The project will help advance technologies that will increase energy efficiency and allow for the cost-effective integration of renewable sources into CHP systems.  CHP is an efficiency strategy that captures waste heat generated during the production of electricity and applies it to a useful purpose, such as water heating or space cooling, instead of allowing the heat to escape directly to the environment.

The California Energy Commission's PIER program supports public interest research and development that helps improve the quality of life in California by bringing environmentally safe, reliable, and affordable energy services and products to the marketplace.
