One of the best ways to address California's current economic condition is to help small and medium-sized businesses create jobs and improve competitiveness through expanded overseas trade.
To work toward that goal, I am helping promote a free 'Trade Connect' workshop next Thursday, Oct. 27, where I will be the kickoff speaker for a series of workshops headlined by prominent experts.
As a longtime supporter of expanded trade through California ports, I will also talk about the importance of my legislation to re-establish a cabinet-level agency to focus solely on economic competitiveness issues, including increased sales of California-made goods overseas.
Joining me Thursday will be key international trade experts, including representatives from the Port of Los Angeles, the U.S. Department of Commerce; the U.S. Small Business Administration; Los Angeles World Airports; and the Center for International Development. Topics range from how to find overseas customers and ways to finance and insure business to how to educate staff and sea and air cargo services.

I encourage you to attend this workshop to learn about this significant opportunity to help create jobs and increase international trade. I hope to see you there!
