Dear Friends,
I know parenting in the 21st century is challenging. Never before have children had access to so much information, so much outside contact, as they do today, with the widespread use of the Internet and cell phones.
As Californians, we're accustomed to embracing new technologies and incorporating them into our lifestyles. But the reach of the Internet and cell phones presents unique problems for parents.
The marvels of modern technology can be hugely advantageous for kids, but they can also endanger their privacy or safety. Parents often ask me where they or their children can go to learn more or what they can do to better protect themselves.
For that reason, I have organized a town hall meeting this Thursday night (Feb. 2) to highlight Internet safety. Alameda County Sheriff Greg Ahern will join me to discuss this with experts in law enforcement and the Internet.
If you have an interest in this topic, I hope you'll attend.
The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the City of Pleasanton Library, 400 Old Bernal Avenue in Pleasanton.
If you have any questions about this town hall meeting, please contact my district office at (510) 577-2310.
As always, I welcome your feedback and look forward to representing you in the California State Senate.
Sincerely,
Ellen M. Corbett
Senate Majority Leader
