California's Budget
This January, Governor Jerry Brown released his proposed budget for 2012-2013. The Governor projects a $9.1 billion deficit and proposes to balance it with a mix of spending cuts and a tax package that would require approval of the voters in November 2012.
Senate Democrats have committed to fully vetting the Governor's proposed budget in public with input from all stakeholders. The Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee and its issue-specific budget subcommittees will begin that review January 19, 2012.
In May, the Governor will use updated revenue receipts to offer a revised budget. The Legislature has until midnight on June 15, 2012 to review, amend and pass a finalized 2012-2013 Budget.
